This month's application tool is the Disci-Pen (basically, an expo marker...) and we are challenging every family to participate this month in our challenge!!

Use your Disci-Pen to write this month's verse (1 Tim 4:8) on your bathroom mirrors, windows, or anywhere else that you see on a day-to-day basis! Take picture of your kids, or the whole family, in front of the area where you wrote the verse and e-mail it to Warwick (children@devonshire.org or whfuller@gmail.com)! You could also take a video of you reading the verse from your mirror or wherever you wrote it.

KiDstuf Project Generosity 09

KiDstuf has the goal of collecting 100 Beanie Babies to send to Honduras

as part of Devonshire's Project Generosity, CURE International, for November!

We're About Healing

CURE is passionate about the physical and spiritual healing of disabled children in developing countries. As a Christian nonprofit organization, this is our passion and the foundation of what we have been doing for ten years.

It's not an overstatement to call ourselves CURE International: we've focused our energies and resources on the 125 million children in developing countries who can be cured - and cured completely. Specifically, we're helping the kids with Hydrocephalus, Cleft Palate, Club Foot, Spina Bifida and other spinal deformities, and crippling orthopedic conditions. Seven hundred thousand children have already had their lives transformed by the touch of CURE...and their families have experienced equally miraculous transformations in their own lives.

All new, clean, and slightly used Beanie Babies are welcome!

Children can bring in their donations on either Wednesday nights or Sunday mornings

October is for Individuality and we have a wonderful opportunity to help a local ministry throughout the month! What you'll find below is a brief letter that outlines all you need to know!

This is a great opportunity for kids and parents to work together for something great!

Dear Parents,

The kids are learning this month about how they can put their individuality to use by using what they have to make a difference. They have each made a card and will be making another one Wednesday evening at KidStuf that share the love of Jesus. You are welcome to make your own card(s) at home as well. These cards are going to be handed out to the residents of Paxton Home Ministries. There are 85 residents at the home & we hope to be able to give at least one card to everyone, so we would love for you to help us out. Paxton Ministries is a place of hope and healing for many people. They provide long-term, affordable housing, food and support to low income and disadvantaged adults (primarily Mental Health/Mental Retardation clients). You can see more information at http://www.paxtonmin.org/.

I would love for the kids to be able to help hand them out on October 24th to the residents as they come for lunch. Saturday, October 24, 2009 is national “Make A Difference Day” http://www.usaweekend.com/diffday/ and our kids have the unique opportunity to visit with and hand out these cards as our way of making a difference. We will meet at the church parking lot at 11:15am on October 24th to travel to Paxton home ministries. I anticipate being able to leave to return home by 12:15 or 12:30pm at the latest. Please call or email me to let me know if you and/or your child(ren) will be able to come. We will need drivers as well, so if you can be a driver, please let me know.

Hello Kidstuf Families,

Next Wednesday, April 29th, we will hold our END OF YEAR PICNIC from 6-7:30 p.m. in the church's backyard.

It's going to be a good time, so bring the entire family out for an evening of fun, food, and prizes.

We only ask that each family brings lawn chairs/blankets for their family to eat on and a food item as described below:

If your last name begins with A through L, bring a dessert.
If your last name begins with M through Z, bring a side dish.

*Devonshire will provide the meat and all the trimmings.

This is going to be the last Kidstuf meeting for the 2008-2009 school year. We'll start back up in the fall.

So What's Resourcefulness?

So we've had some feedback from parents ... asking, "What kind of stories are you looking for in relation to the virtue of resourcefulness?"

We want to help bring some clarification on the kind of stories that we're look for with this month's application tool ... especially since we really want to have enough stories from you so that we can duct tape Brent to the wall ....

So here's the deal ... essentially, resourcefulness boils down to the why and how of our work: The fact that God gives us work, so we need to work like we're working for Him, even when no one's watching, doing our best, and trusting that God will do His part and that He will give us what we need to get the job done. So this month we're "taking care of business"----using what we have to get the job done.

SO STORIES OF SEEING YOUR CHILD DOING TASKS WITH GREAT ATTITUDES, GREAT DETERMINATION, AND DOING THEIR BEST ... ARE WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR ...

Hope that helps! We just want to encourage kids to do the best they can ... with good attitudes ... and not just when people are looking ... but to know that they should to do their work as working for God.

***Here are more details on the principles and points that we are driving home this month with your kids on this virtue ...

To say God is resourceful is something of an understatement. After all, God not only owns all resources, He made them----from nothing. In the beginning God created everything, and then God did something else incredible: He made humanity in His own image (Genesis 1:27). As humans created in God's likeness, we've been given certain God-like characteristics, like resourcefulness. But not just for the sake of being resourceful. Resourcefulness has a purpose: to work, to get the job done. Look up "work" in the Bible, and you'll find God has much to say about work. We have a lot to say about work too, phrases that are sprinkled throughout our vocabulary: Work ethic, worker bee, and work force. Workaholic and work stoppage. Work on, work off, work out, work over. Our vocabulary shows our ambivalence about work.

And yet God made us to work: "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10, NIV).

Commanded us, even, to work: "Six days do your work ..." (Exodus 23:12, NIV).

With diligence, according to Jesus: "As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me" (John 9:4, NIV).

And all our work is for Him, ultimately: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men" (Colossians 3:23, NIV).

Essentially, resourcefulness boils down to the why and how of our work: The fact that God gives us work, so we need to work like we're working for Him, even when no one's watching, doing our best, and trusting that God will do His part and that He will give us what we need to get the job done. So this month we're "taking care of business"----using what we have to get the job done.

Week 1:
Work like you're working for God.
(A principle of work, Colossians 3)

Week 2:
Work hard even when no one's watching.
(The ant and the sluggard, Proverbs 6)

Week 3:
Do your best, and trust God to do His part.
(Hezekiah and the wall, 2 Kings 18; 2 Chronicles 32)

Week 4:
God gives you what you need to get the job done.
(God does miraculous things through Moses, Exodus 4)

January’s KIDSTUF Application Tool

What could be a better take-home example of resourcefulness than duct tape?

This month we are collecting stories about specific acts of resourcefulness that your children are demonstrating. Please send in your stories to children@devonshirechurch.org or give us a note with the story on Wednesday night at Kidstuf.

For each story of resourcefulness, we’ll be adding a specific length of duct tape to a running total. Then at the end of the month, we are going to see if we can duct tape Brent to the wall with that amount of duct tape. We’ll be keeping a tally of how much tape we’ve got based on the stories that we receive.

To remind kids to keep track of their acts of resourcefulness, we are giving them each a small piece of duct tape folded over onto itself (so the sticky side doesn’t contact car seats, dogs, hair, or anything else you wouldn’t want it to touch). We’ve told the kids that when they show the virtue of resourcefulness, they can use the duct tape to mark the spot where they “used what they had to get the job done.”

So we look forward to hearing the stories that you give us of your kids showing resourcefulness.

**Here's what you can expect us to talk about during the FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE part of the night: For Heaven's Sake is about what we believe is of greatest importance. It’s about something so important that you will want to pass it on to your children. When it all comes down to it, we believe that there is only one thing that matters most: a person's relationship with Jesus Christ. So, as a part of our evening together, we want to share the Gospel with every parent and child who comes out. We want every mom and dad and child to understand how much God loves you. God even wants a personal relationship with you. We hope that following this event, every parent will then return home and talk about God’s great love with their child and lead him or her to make this most important life-decision.

Hello Parents!

There's a few things from last night at Kidstuf that we want to make you aware of ....

1. CHRISTMAS WRAPPING PAPER: Last night, your child should have come home with a piece of Christmas wrapping paper. I know it probably didn't look like much and it may have already found it's way to the trash, but there is a point to us sending it home ... Here's what we are asking your family to do with it this week and then hopefully next week we can hear some stories of what your family decided to do with it ....

2. PROJECT GENEROSITY UPDATE: Also, thanks for your contributions of cans of peas to Project Generosity. The Pea-O-Meter has gone up to 181 cans!!! That only leaves us with 119 cans to go by next Wednesday .... We CAN DO IT!

3. This Sunday - CHRISTMAS DINNER & KIDSTUF PRODUCTION: This coming Sunday, December 14th, is our Christmas Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome ... we hope you can join us for a Christmas Kidstuf production and some great time together eating and celebrating the season ... if you can come, bring along a dish from the following menu items: potatoes, a vegetable, or a dessert!

Project Generostiy Update (Over halfway there!)

Just wanted to send out an encouragement to you all today about Project Generosity and where we are at in being generous by giving towards our goal of 300 peas for some families in need.

So far we are at 154 cans of peas given to date ... THAT'S OVER HALFWAY!!

So bring out the cans tonight, and I know that we can reach the goal in the next week ...

PEAS: Bring cans fo peas to give to families in need ... let's raise the level on the Pea-o-Meter!

TOMORROW NIGHT: Parents I'd like to meet with you again tomorrow night at the beginning of the meeting time to share with you about what we are going to be doing next week in what we are calling "For Heaven's Sake." You are an integral part to this and this could be one the most important nights in your child's life.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Christmas Dinner and Kidstuf Production: This coming Sunday, December 14th, is our Christmas Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome ... we hope you can join us for a Christmas Kidstuf production and some great time together eating and celebrating the season ...

NEXT WEDNESDAY: Gingerbread House Activity Night and FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE: Next Wednesday, December 17th we need your presence in helping your children put together their gingerbread houses... following our time with that we are going to have a part of the night that we are going to be calling "For Heaven's Sake."

In case you missed it last night, here's what we're challenging our families to at Kidstuf!

During the month of December, our children are learning about the virtue of "Generosity - Making someone's day by giving something away." Scripture tells us to "be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share." (1 Timothy 6:18) One of the ways we want to help our children and families grow in generosity is by asking them to take an active role in showing gratitude for all God has given them by giving to others through what we are calling PROJECT GENEROSITY.

PROJECT GENEROSITY is what we are calling our effort to help provide some much needed items to individuals and organizations in our community.

We are partnering with Bethesda Mission which is a Christian Rescue Mission and its mission is to reach out a helping hand to the men and women of the streets for the purpose of "Introducing them to the Gospel of Jesus Christ," and providing them with food, shelter, clothing, fellowship and Christian counseling.

This opportunity in partnership with Bethesda is to help them provide bags full of food necessary for 300 families to enjoy a Christmas Dinner this year. The goal that we have in this project this year is to provide 300 cans of peas.

Drop Off: Cans of peas can be dropped off anytime between now and December 17 and placed in the designated bin in the narthex or downstairs on the fellowship hall stage.

Just wanted to send a note out to remind everyone that Kidstuf will not be held this week. We hope that everyone has a great Thanksgiving Day and takes advantage of the time together with friends and family to celebrate all that God has done for them!

We'll be back at it with Kidstuf on December 3rd with an exciting night ... so we'll see you then, if not before!

Also, here's the slideshow that we showed of the night when we put together Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes ... all together we were able to submit 80 boxes for kids around the world. WAY TO GO. (If the video doesn't show up below ... click here)

Looking for Some Props

Parents,

Usually, our team is able to get creative and come up with the props necessary for our productions, BUT this month there are a few props that we are hoping you can help us out with ... not that we are asking you to purchase anything ... WE'RE HOPING YOU MIGHT HAVE SOME OF THESE ITEMS :)

Here's a list of what we're looking for ....

a Darth vader outfit
a semi-jedi outfit (2 lightsabers)
a donkey outfit
a battery operated set of christmas lights
3 sheep outfits
14 flashlights

According to Warwick, all these items are need for the Christmas Dinner Kidstuf Production which will be held on December 14th at 5:30 p.m.

At the beginning while the parents are meeting, the children are going to be learning songs that they are going to present on 12/21/08 during the morning worship service. Kidstuf in the Sanctuary

Due to the construction downstairs in the fellowship hall, Kidstuf will be meeting in the sanctuary this coming Wednesday, November 12. They will be meeting during the regular hours of 6:45 - 8:15PM. Please use the front entrance doors, the downstairs fellowship hall doors will not be accessible.

Children's Church Update

Hi Moms & Dads,

This month your child is learning about the virtue "Gratitude". Please take a few minutes each day this week to talk about one of the 4 activities on their God Time (click here to print it off if it is missing in action). Then, sign it, and send it with them on Sunday in their bible. Here is the verse for them to memorize month:

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever." I Chronicles 16:34 NIV

Way to go, to those of your children who had it down pat on Sunday! And to those who brought their God Times! They get extra points each week for knowing their verse & bringing their signed God Times cards. The last Sunday of this month will be redemptions for prizes, so help them make each Sunday count! It definately takes your encouragement & involvement! Thanks so much for all you do!

Children's Christmas Program

Dear Parents,

We are very excited to announce that we will be having a Children's Christmas Program this year at Devonshire! The program will be presented Sunday morning, December 21^st, in the morning worship service.

Your child is invited to participate, but we will also need your support and assistance in preparing them for this event.

The children will be learning songs for the programs in children's church and at Wednesday night programs. Word sheets will be sent home, and it will be great if you can go over it with them at home.
Each child will be given a part to play, and most will be speaking parts. Please work with your child in memorizing this part, so they will be confident when the time comes to present it in the program. This will be an important part of their enjoyment of this experience.
Please plan for your child to attend a rehearsal on Saturday morning, December 20^th from 9-11 at the church. This is very important, because otherwise your child will feel confused and uncertain the morning of the program. We will quickly run through the program and let them practice marching in, standing on the platform, and speaking their little pieces.

I hope this will be a memorable experience for the children of our church, and will help them to know what an important of our church family they are!

Ask Your Kids: This month's virtue is "Determination: Deciding it's worth it to finish what you started." .... and this week's bottom line is "Keep doing what God says even if others don't."

So with that in mind, ask your kids this question refering to the story of Noah doing what God said and building an Ark when people around him were laughing at him .... "Have you ever felt like Noah?" And then share an example from your life when you did something that was right even when others didn't. What happened?

Brag on Your Kids: Let us know of examples of your kids demonstrating the virtue of determination. We'd love to give you the opportunity to encourage your kids and others by recognizing them.

Kidstuf Pumpkin Carving Night

Everyone get out your pumpkin carving attire for our annual pumpkin carving extravaganza!

This will be an outside event, held right here at Devonshire, so be sure to dress accordingly. Pumpkins and drinks will be provided for all who attend. We are asking each family to bring a snack to share (cookies, chips, pretzels, brownies, ect...). We encourage parents to stay and enjoy the fun of the harvest season. Younger siblings are welcome too!

We'll kick stuff off around 6:45 p.m. downstairs in the fellowship hall!

Parents, New Virtue, & Tools

Just a reminder that this Wednesday night at KIDSTUF, we're going to be continuing our first week of learning about the virtue of Determination.

Determination - deciding it’s worth it to finish what you started.

Last week we started meeting as parents without the kids from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. while they are being led in some fun activities. We are going to continue to do that each week (except for Activity Nights) and then join together with them at about 7:15 p.m. for the Kidstuf Family Production. This will give us a good bit of time to connect with each other and hear about how we can take what our children are learning to the next step as we go home and talk with them about what it means to apply this to their everyday lives.

We're looking forward to seeing you Wednesday! Hope you can make it!

4. Uncommon sense, to help them make wise choices. We make sure the Bible is never boring. Each week kids walk away with one truth about God that they can remember forever.

5. Nosey parents who know where their kids are spiritually. We know that what happens at home is more important than what happens at church. So we want to equip parents with tools to build faith and character in their kids.

KIDSTUF is our Wednesday night ministry to parents and children (grades K-5). Families will experience a high energy stage production that combines music, drama, and Bible lessons to inspire kids as they learn about applying godly virtues to their lives. Also, on a monthly basis special activities will also be held. Parents are encouraged to attend so that we can partner with them as we lay the foundations for a Christian life.

Well, the season of Kidstuf is complete. We hope everyone had a nice time last night playing games and enjoying dinner together ... It's been a good year and we're looking forward to seeing you out every week on Sunday mornings at Children's Church (10:30 am) where you'll keep on learning how to grow as a follower of Jesus. Over the next few months you'll learn about Trust, Contentment, Wisdom, and other virtues.

Also be sure to mark on your calendars the week of July 14 to 18 when we'll be holding Vacation Bible School.

Just wanted to send out a note to mention a few things.

1. Thank You: We want to thank everyone for coming out last Wednesday night for the Easter Egg Hunt. We hope everyone had a good time ... It was truly our privilege to have you with us.

2. You're Invited: We also, wanted to make sure that you know that you and your families are invited to come out and join us weekly from 6:45 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday nights through the end of April when we'll wrap up our weekly Wednesday night meetings.
